Overview
The Vision on Fifteenth’s 3D, Augmented Reality (AR) real estate tour was a technology-driven open-house experience designed to help generate interest in the office building which was under development by allowing visitors to view live AR scenes on their mobile devices of what the space will look like upon completion.
This was one of my first projects utilizing 3D modeling technology to deliver an experience accessible to individual’s mobile devices. This project required complex logistical planning and cross-team collaboration between Burns Scalo Real Estate’s marketing department, construction teams, and their third-party IT agency.
Timeline: Fall 2022
Role: Art Director / Lead Graphic Design Consultant
Client: Burns Scalo Real Estate
3D Models
In order to provide an accurate augmented reality experience, we would have to replicate the renderings that were provided to Burns Scalo Real Estate by their architecture firms and interior designers. The first step would be meeting with these third party agencies to acquire any assets they could provide us. I designed the remaining assets that could not be provided. This included creating near-identical 3D models of furniture and fixtures required to replicate the the architectural renderings.
File Optimization
All of the assets had to be optimized for web storage, meaning the the polygon count needed to be reduced enough to decrease the file size while retaining a realistic appearance.
Tools
Adobe Dimension, Blender, Reality Composer
UI/UX
I packaged the entire experience in a web application that user would access via a QR code upon entering the building. The app featured a home page with an overview of the property, and a dropdown menu that linked to each station’s experience. Users could also scan a QR code at each station to re-access the app in case they closed out of their browser.
Tools
Atom, After Effects, Illustrator, XD
Technology
This project required coordination with Burns Scalo Real Estate’s third party IT agency to set up WiFi with a sufficient bandwidth to run the augmented reality device on each individual’s mobile device. I also optimized and compressed all files on the mobile site to assure the content did not exceed the available bandwidth.
Multimedia
As the Art Director for this project, I led the graphic designers on the team in the creation of posters and way-finding signage. This helped lead visitors to the correct stations, where they would point their device at a printed anchor on the ground to activate their experience.
Experience
The design team and I trained two other real estate brokers in addition to the marketing team to help us in assisting visitors and helping them start their augmented reality experience. Each station had at least two people to help visitors and direct them to the next station.
